My first half-marathon

Workout: Ran 4 miles on treadmill 37:40

I don’t, or should I say didn’t, consider myself a distance runner.  I had only done 8 miles a handful of times and a nine miler once.  On Wednesday, Dec. 1st, I went on  my first 10 mile run with a friend who is currently training for a full marathon.  During that run she convinced me to sign up for a half marathon that weekend! I waited until Friday to make sure my legs were ok from that 10 miler and I signed up for it.  After all, it was only $30, the cheapest I have ever seen a half marathon.

Since this was my first time running a half marathon I didn’t really have any time goals in mind.

The first six miles were great, my body felt good besides a stomach ache at the beginning and I was keeping pace with the people around me.

Mile 1: 9:39

Mile 2: 9:32

Mile 3: 9:38

Mile 4: 9:37

Mile 5: 9:32

Mile 6: 9:40

After mile six my pace began to rapidly decrease, my hips were tight, my legs hurt, and I was tired!

Mile 7: 9:53

Mile 8: 10:07

Mile 9: 10:11

Mile 10: 10:37

Mile 11: 11:49 —> 😦 This one was tough and I walked a couple of times

Mile 12: 9:48

Mile .1: 7:41

Official time: 2:11:45.

Overall I am happy with my time considering I didn’t train, long runs had been sporadic, and this was my first time running more than 10 miles.  I think I learned a little lesson about pacing, though.

My goal for my next half, which I am planning to do in February, is to complete it in under 2:07:00.

The medal was pretty ugly but what can you ask for with a fee of only $30?
